Dr Sketchy’s is getting budding artists, or people who just want to give some drawing a whirl, to take a trip to Wonderland in its latest event.
On February 5th, Dr Sketchy’s Presents: Through The Looking Glass is coming to The Basement, where attendees will be able to join in with an Alice in Wonderland themed drawing class.
Dr Sketchy’s offers a break from tradition when it comes to drawing. The so called Anti-Art School promises a relaxed atmosphere where no one is told how they should draw, what they should draw or how fast they should get their work done.
Its mission statement says: “We celebrate drawing the way you’ve always wanted to. We’re not a serious art class, just a lot of art monkeys giving it a go in a relaxed atmosphere.”
A number of years ago, Dr Sketchy’s held a Wonderland themed event where artists got to draw some of their favourite characters, such as the Cheshire Cat and the Mad Hatter. Recently, the Wonderland event was voted to come back and that’s why the Basement will be hosting this event.
The challenge is this: “If you can just sketch your way to the end of the chessboard, you’ll be made royalty of Wonderland.”
As well as an opportunity to drink and draw, entertainment will also be provided in the form of Wonderland-themed burlesque from Starla Bright.
Tickets for the event can be purchased through the City Screen website or on the door.
Materials such as paper and pencils will be provided, however the team says that guests are also welcome to bring their own.
