The Go! Team play The Duchess on 20th September.
Indie-pop six-piece The Go! Team are coming to The Duchess this Sunday, with support from York’s own slacker-pop act JUNK.
This is one of only two dates that The Go! Team are playing in the UK – the other being at Ramsbottom Festival in Lancashire – before they jet off to tour Japan.
The Go! Team began early last decade, when multi-instrumentalist Ian Parton decided to make music that fuses Sonic Youth-like guitar, old school hip hop, electro and Bollywood soundtracks. In 2004, the band released their first album and it was nominated for the Mercury Prize the following year.
Earlier in 2015, The Go! Team released their fourth studio album titled The Scene Between. They played the closing set at Indietracks Festival in July.
Making up the current line-up of the band are Parton, Angela Mak, Ninja, Sam Dook, Simone Odaranile and Cheryl Pinero. Between them, they incorporate vocals, guitar, bass, drums, tambourine, glockenspiel, banjo and a host of other instruments.
Meanwhile, JUNK are on tour, promoting their Liquorice EP, with dates in Leeds, Stockton and London. They also played a set Indietracks this summer, then performed at Leeds International Beer Festival earlier this month. Despite doing tour dates across the country, the band remain true to their roots and are regulars on the York music scene. Earlier this year, we reviewed one of their headline shows at The Basement.
JUNK are a two-piece featuring Estella Adeyeri and Danny Barton. Their music is lo-fi and upbeat and their Facebook page describes them as trashy indie pop.
The Go! Team and JUNK play The Duchess on Sunday 20th September. Tickets are £14 in advance or £16 on the door and can be bought from the box office or online.
